The celebration was an absolute success. The heavy beat of drums pounded in rhythm with the guitar and woodwind instruments, making Sakura’s foot tap out of sight under the table. The duty of the Avatar at these gatherings was to greet people, and receive their thanks much like a wedding, except, there were no gifts or silly ceremonies to adhere too.

Sakura sat in the middle of a long table at the front of the room along with the Collective Council of Elders, although almost all the Air Masters hated her, at the moment they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Father Bae-Jung a terribly wrinkled man with small grey eyes and short white beard laughed as an Air Acolyte offered him a dessert from the tray in his hand. The two of them laughed as Bae-Jung joked that he would take the whole lot if the boy did not take them away as soon as possible.

All this happiness really uplifted Sakura’s spirit, still, she had been at the Eastern Air Temple for almost three years now, she missed her home; all the Airbenders surrounding her reminded the Avatar of her best friend back home, Kinto.

Granted, he was technically only half Air Nomad, but the boy; or man now, was an Airbender himself. Sakura missed his laugh, his grey eyes that squinted so tiny when he laughed or smiled that they looked closed.

“Avatar Sakura!” Sister Nima’s voice freed Sakura from her thoughts and the young Avatar turned towards the Nun.

“Yes Ma’am?”
“You look upset, are you alright?” Nima asks concerned lines beginning to form on her face
“Just thinking of home Sister Nima. I do love it here, the temple is beautiful, but the South is my home.”

The old woman smiles warmly, wrapping her arm around Sakura, squeezing her close. “I know sweetie, but just think! Your test is over, you are the Avatar now, and you can return home in peace until duty calls you.” Nima gives Sakura a warm motherly smile. “Now come on, tonight is not the night to be home sick, tonight...you should be celebrating!” Sister laughs pulling Sakura up from her chair and nudging her around the table. “Go on! If I don’t see you smiling I will revoke my decision!”

“Your decision?” Sakura asks confused.

“Nevermind that! Go on!” Sister Nima gives the Avatar a shove that is almost too rough, as the wind whips past her sleeves forcing Sakura forwards to the festivities.

Sakura floped onto her bed with a soft thump sending the light sheets up in the air to float around her before settling down.

She lay there for a moment, spread eagle, exhausted with a big grin stretching across her face. Not only was she finally finished her Avatar training, it was finally time to head south, to her home...and to Kinto.

After the young Avatar rested her eyes, she realized that none of her personal things had been packed, and Sakura wanted to leave the Air Temple as soon as possible.

She sprung up quickly, causing her head a heavy rush, Sakura quickly shook it off and began packing, or something close to that, if shoving everything she had brought with her into suitcases roughly counted as packing.

After everything was zipped, buttoned and clasped tightly, ready to burst any moment, Sakura flopped back on her plush bed, before she could even speak all four elements her eyes fluttered closed and she began to snore softly, cuddling the pillow.

The wind whipped through Sakura’s black braided hair as she gripped her glider lightly while she sailed through the air gracefully. A familiar raspy laugh danced around her, she turned her head back and her eyes lit up as they landed on Kinto, following behind her on his own traditional orange glider.

His grey eyes scrunched up as he smiled, wisps of his black hair floated around his face as Sakura’s name formed in his mouth. Before he could even get a word out, Azar, Sakura’s spirit animal, an enormous orange and yellow Dragon Bird speeded between the two friends, leaving small flames in it’s path, hovering for a moment before they disappeared.

The elegant creature sailed across the sky, turning upwards straight into the path of the sun. Azar let out a sound that was a cross between the screech of an eagle and the roar of a dragon. He opened his massive wings, casting a shadow on Sakura and Kinto as they continued to fly around.

The Dragon Bird turned into a nose dive straight past the Avatar, sounding it’s screeching roar once more.

Sakura flipped her blue glider closed and plummeted down, landing perfectly on Azar. She held on to his soft feathers gripping his leathery skin with her knees, as Kinto landed behind her, doing the same. She grinned, turning to face Kinto behind her. But he was gone.

In less than a second Azar shuddered violently beneath her hands. He let out a cry of pain and began to drop from the sky, forcing Sakura to clutch on to him tightly.

Her spirit animal wouldn’t stop falling though, “why wasn’t he flying? Flap your wings!” she thought to herself. As the ground grew larger beneath them, Azar cried out once more, Sakura closing her eyes tight as she braced for impact, her senses cut off as the wind rushed past her as if she was in a wind tunnel.

“AZAR!” She tried to scream, but the wind filled her lungs. The Avatar’s magnificent spirit bird screeched once more, so loud, it caused Sakura to cover her ears and let go of Azar.

Her hands quickly reach out for her Dragon Bird, to only grab empty air, and find that Azar is gone. Before Sakura can even register what has happening and what is happening, everything goes black.

Sakura shot up in her bed, waving her arm across her body firebending impulsively, panting as she looked around the room. Sakura must have been tossing and turning in her sleep, which was made obvious when she had to untangle herself from the sheets.

With sweat dripping off her face Sakura walked over and un-corked her water bottle, bending some of it to splash on her face and cool herself down.

“It was just a dream.” Sakura thought to herself. Just a dream, but she couldn’t help it, she had to check on Azar.

There was an unspoken curfew for the Air Nomads and they tended to stick to it almost religiously, so the Air Temple grounds were quiet. Not the usual silent serenity though.

No, this was an eerie silence that Sakura could feel in every fibre of her body, this is how she knew that there was something not quite right. Every step she took echoed along the stone walkway, the breeze was cold and chilled her bare arms, that even for a Southern Native she hugged herself, stroking her arms for warmth and speeding up her walking.

When Sakura finally reached the shelter, she took her hands off her arms which were pink and very warm, she must have been unintentionally firebending again to keep herself warm.
As she pushed open one of the large doors to the shelter it creaked so loud, Sakura was sure it would wake the entire temple. Her anxiety lowered and her thumping heart slowed down as Azar snuffed a puff of fire from his nose that quickly evaporated into smoke and turned his large to face Sakura.

The Avatar walked over and lay her hand on his leathery muzzle. A rumble vibrated through his long throat as Sakura pet his head, wrapping her arms around his massive head as far as she could pulling him into a hug. “I did it Azar, I’m officially the Avatar.” she pulled out of the hug and smiled “I’m sorry I didn’t come visit you sooner, there was a party…” Sakura shrugged her shoulders as she sighed. The faint fiery bird cooed, nudging his partner’s stomach.

Sakura looked into the creatures beautiful eyes, orange, yellow and red, they looked as if they were made of fire themselves, always moving and changing. “I’ll see you tomorrow Azar, tomorrow we get to go home and-” the Dragon Bird’s loud screech cut her off as he jerked violently, knocking Sakura across the shelter.

Grunting softly, the Avatar stood back up, rubbing a painful spot on her leg, which was quickly forgotten when she saw her Dragon Bird stuck in an unnaturally demented pose, his flaming eyes wide with fear.

Her spirit animal was strong though, and whatever had taken hold of him, he snapped out of it breathing fire all around him defensively. Sakura put her hands in front of her to bend the fire out of the way, but Azar’s blast knocked her off her feet and into a bail of hay. When she stood up the entire shelter is on fire.
The Legend of Sakura Chapter One: The Avatar
WOOSH! A large gust of wind flies right past five orange and yellow clad Air Nomads, causing their hair beards to dance around their faces. Four of them cower back in fear except for one, the woman in the middle with small brown eyes that are encircled with soft wrinkles. She continues to watch the Air Bending display in front of her intensely with a fascinated thin smile on her face.
The display is fantastic as the girl before them twists her hands, opening her palms then bringing them together to create a large gust of wind; an offensive move. She dips backwards landing on her left hand, twisting her body kicking up her feet spinning the air with her movements. When the girl is inches from landing on the ground behind her she pushes off with the Air movements she created seconds ago, jumping over the man acting as the ‘enemy’. The enemy turns to her arms poised and sends four slices of air towards her. She twists her feet evading the first two and ducks down just i

The Legend of Sakura Chapter Three: Fire and Blood
Azar was screeching and roaring loudly as the shelter began to crumble above the two. With no water to put out the fire Sakura was unable to help her Spirit animal who in turn, she knew felt the same. She knew this because Azar happened to be not only her friend, transportation and a rare pet, he was connected to her spirit, and Sakura’s spirit was connected to his.
“Azar!” Sakura cried out as loud as she could over the raging flames that engulfed the entire shelter.
A loud cry from Azar as he pushed through the flaming rubble and ash, nudging Sakura in the back knocking her over. With a surprised yelp from the Avatar he took hold of her shirt in his beak and spread his fiery wings, unharmed by the flames, then took off up into the sky, lifting the both of them to safety.
The spirit partners hovered for a moment observing what had just happened. Thankfully the Nomads didn’t build much out of wood so the rest of the temple was safe from the flames.
Azar floated t
 Chapter Three

This chapter is fairly short, and I decided that I will be doing a short synopsis of each chapter I post. So here it is.

A couple days later, after Sakura was announced as the official Avatar, she was ecstatic about her title, however she missed home and couldn't wait to get home. Only Azar her best friend and Spirit Animal was her link to the Southern Water Tribe.

I have also been having some issues with plot, every day I get new ideas in my head, and I am currently organizing everything from this point on. I have written up to chapter five though! So expect at least three more soon!</h1>
